Code 12, and 34

Code 12
Diagnostic mode; no distributor signal to Electronic Control Module; System PASS.

Code 34
MAP sensor- signal voltage is low during ignition on.

I'm getting these two codes. What should I do?

fix it

The code 12 always comes up. It will flash the 12 3 times before moving on to your actual codes, which it will also flash 3 times each until it sequences through all of your codes, then it will start over.

I thought a 34 was a MAF related code. Do you have speed density? Anyway, hopefully somebody else can help with that code. I've obviously outlived my usefullness here

You are partially correct. The 34 code is an MAF, but it is also a MAP code.

I have replace the MAF but the car still on occasion has the servic engine soon light come on and it idles rough and surges during coast.

Thanks for the info on the 12 code.

might want to check the tps voltage. if it is adjusted too high it will set this code.

Husker,

Recheck the electrical connector at the MAF. Check the MAF power and burnoff relays. An easy way to diagnose this is to exchange the two relays. If the code changes from a '34' to a '36' you probably have a failing relay.

This is for a TA:

Another possible cause for a code 34 is a leak in the intake ducts between the MAF sensor and throttle body. If you have the blow-molded plastic resonator box in the ducting, check the seams of the box carefully. GM had a TSB on cracks in the air boxes causing leaks and '34's on some models.

P.S. - It's usually a good idea to post a little specific information about the vehicle in question, like year, model, engine, etc. It makes diagnosis a lot easier.
