Dumb Question - What about ram air?
Dumb Question - What about ram air?
I popped the hood on my 87 Z (Carb'ed) and notice it had an open air filter (I presume to increase the air flow). I just looked through my Summit catalog, and could not find anything for CAI (Cold Air Induction). Is this pointless on my car? Anyone tried it with results?

Lots of people have had good success with cold air induction, regardless of the car. If you want to see a good idea put to work go to http://members.nbci.com/scauffiel/ and check out his ram air setup.

For a carb or TBI car, the superior system is the one that came on the L69 Z28s. It has 2 snorkels that pick up their air from just above the headlights. You get high flow, cold air, and "ram air" to the extrememly limited extent that it exists at highway speeds, all out of something you can pick up at the boneyard.
Open element breathers no matter how tall the element are detrimental to HP because they draw in hot air.
