Lt4 Hotcam
I would like to know, what is eveyrbody's thoughts on the LT4 hotcam? I need a cam for my alum. headed corvette 350(L98)...i'm doing the HSR swap, new higher lift valetrain, custom chip, full exhaust, and 2200 stall converter....and I'm thinking the LT4 hotcam matches up well with that...what do you guys think? it is either the hotcam or the 63-08-503-8 Comp Cams "Extreme" Hydraulic Roller Camshaft, 224 / 230, .502 / .510 112 LSA, High performance street machines, 2000+ stall, gears, choppy idle ....i'm leaning towards the hotcam because it has more lift, and I want to get as much as i can out of my aluminum L98 heads without porting them...is the LT4 a good choice then? anybody have any power estimates on my combo at all?

Don't be fooled by the .525" lift of the Hot Cam. That's figured using 1.6:1 rocker arm ratio.
Using 1.5:1 rocker arms will result in .492" of lift.
Also, the .050" duration of the Hot Cam is also 218*/228*. Not much difference on the exhaust side, but 6* difference on the intake compared to the Comp Cam you're looking at.
The shorter duration means the intake valve will close sooner and the cam will have less overlap. This will give you slightly more lower RPM torque with a less choppy idle.
Using 1.5:1 rocker arms will result in .492" of lift.

well I'm getting new roller rockers to match whatever the cam says....looks like 1.6 ratio....that is a good point you pointed out....which do you think is the better cam? the comp cam or the LT4???

The Comp cam will kick the GM cam's butt. It has steeper ramps, less seat duration, more .050" duration, and more lift.
The only advantages to the GM cam are a slight price difference, and it's easier on the valve train because it doesn't move the valves as much or as fast.

I think if u go with the comp cams cam ( you like that one huh), youll probably want more than 2200 stall. Im thinking 2600-2800 at least.
BTW, that im going with that same cam (xe276) in a 350 im having built. Im going with TFS 23* heads, a super ram (cant go HSR due to cali emissions), and either a vig 2800 TC, or a T56.
So i guess we can compare notes once all is said and done...

well the thing is, i just had my tranny rebuilt by my dad's buddy, and its built up to like 600 ponies now, and we thought the price was a bit high so he threw in a free 2400(I believe) rpm stall converter, so i can't really say oh, can i trade you for a 2800 or 3000.....i talked to another guy, and he said it will all work, but I just won't get into the powerband as quick as i would with like a 3000 stall...so i guess i can live with out the big stall....he also said that energy cam will be way better than the hotcam, so it looks like i'm going to order that XE cam....but for comparing results, i don't think i'm going to be quite up to par with you...lol, i know for a fact my stock heads are holding me back, but i'm 18, going to college next year, so i think 300-350 RWHP will be alright for phase one, and i'll get another camaro after i get outta school and get crazy with that one....do you guys have any HP estimates? is 300-350RWHP possible?

As far as 300-350 RWHP, the HSR and that cam will help you get there, and those are solid heads (alum. vette heads) but ive heard they only perform real well when they are pretty well worked over.

yea i didn't think rearend added horsepower, just helps get the power to the ground...if i get 300-350 RWHP i'll be satified, like i said, i don't want to get too crazy, this car still needs to be a fun driveable car.....i'll go ahead and order that cam, and when all is said and done i'll be sure to post some times and pictures...
