buring oil? i think
when i start my car in the mouring it starts up right away and it smokes a lil bit.after ive drove it for a lil while i have to litterly like pump the gas pedal to start it.and gradually my oil level is dropping.could this have something to do with my cars hard starting problem and if so.is there a way to tell the difference between oil goin the rings or valve seals????????????????
The puff of smoke when you first start in the morning is bad valve seals, which is a common problem with sb chevys. Replacement parts can be found at NAPA they will (or should) sell you O-rings, positive seals, and plastic "umbrellas." Cost is less than $50 as far as I can remember.

Hard starting due to an over-rich condition and oil use can be related. Gas can dilute the oil, making it easier to get past the rings and valve seals.
Like ATO says, though, valve seals do get hard on SBC's, and aren't that expensive to replace if you have an air compressor. The valve spring compressor, spark plug hole air adapter fitting, valve cover gaskets and seals all together should cost you in the neighborhood of $50.
