Removing Belts = How much HP?

My AC is out of Freeon, so I removed the belt to save wear and tear on the compressor. I know it frees up SOME HP but how much about? Then How does one go about disabling the Smog Pump? Just un belt it, or is there something else you have to do.

You can just take the belt off..but if it is legal, you might as well take out all of the smog equipment.

I don't know exactly how much power removing any accessory will free up, but it probably isn't in the double digits.

The only "right" way to remove the smog pump is to remove it completely and plug up the A.I.R. ports in the exhaust manifold. If you just take off the belt, exhaust gases will get into the pump an seize it up (ask me how I know this).

As for power, neither a free-wheeling AC pulley nor the A.I.R. pump uses appreciable power. I kept track of my ETs last year before and after these removals. The biggest gain from removing the AC was the weight loss, not just removing the belt. No difference after taking off the smog pump belt, but now I have to get it fixed before emissions testing next month.
