Cooling fan problems

Hi guys, I checked the archives and couldn't find anything specific so here goes. My car has been running pretty hot while sitting in traffic so I figured I'd try some of the fan tricks from the one tech article. Problem is I discovered my secondary fan isn't coming on at all (BTW it's an 88 IROC TPI with the dual fan set up). I let the engine idle and according to the temp guage it got all the way up to 275 degrees and no secondary fan even with AC on. I replaced the relay on one of the fans about a year ago (I'm pretty sure it was the secondary fan) Primary fan doesn't seem to have any problems. So I shut it off then disconnected the harness to the primary fan and tried wiring it to the secondary fan and it still won't go. So I'm thinking the secondary fan motor is shot. Am I on the right track? I checked autozone on the way home and a replacement motor runs about $20. Is this the best route or should I go with a dealer's GM motor? How about putting in the new motor...Is it a PITA?
Thanks

Its not too hard to change the motor, just make sure to check the direction the nut turns and dont crack the fan blade.

That sounds like whats wrong with it. The autozoo motor should be fine.
