remote oil filter location
remote oil filter location
I have a summit oil/tranny coiler combo. I got the tranny part hooked up. Question is the coiler has the lines running of the factory filter location so you have to remotely mount the filter. where is the best place to put it and were did you place yours. Both for ease of operation and functional use.

I have a V6, so I have quite a bit more room between the engine and radiator than you do, but maybe you can use this idea-
I have a Summit remote trans filter, which uses a big "Ford" PH8A filter (holds a quart of fluid). I mounted it on my passenger side's main frame rail. I made a bracket out of 1/8" steel that looks like an "L". The bracket bolts down to the top of the frame rail. Then, the side of the filter mount goes to the upright part of the "L". This way, my filter hangs upside down... and screws "up" into the mounting base. I just changed the thing this past weekend, the mess was very mild. Plus, with the filter opening facing "up", I can pre-fill the filter with a quart of fluid and not worry about it running out (as I would've if the filter was tilted).
I located the filter very, very close to the idler arm of my front suspension. I did some "trials" to determine how high I had to raise the filter assembly to allow me to unscrew the filter without hitting the idler arm (or idler arm mounting bracket). I did a good job, too; it's a tight squeeze that looks like it won't make it- but it does.
But until I made that bracket, I couldn't figure out a damn spot for the filter. If you have absolutely no room between the engine and radiator, since you have an LG4, you could probably make a bracket to hang the oil filter in front of the radiator. You could hang it from the body piece that the hood latch bolts onto. Then when you've got the front of the car raised for an oil change, you just reach up behind the bumper and yank the filter down. I guess your bracket would look like an upside down "L", or a "T".
Good luck!
