Need help before I go to strip....no 1st gear in drive????
Well, I'm going to the track tonight for my first run with the new motor. I just got a pair of slicks so I decided to try them out today. I also just put a TransGo shift kit in the 700R4 on Saturday. I noticed that ever since the shift kit, drive and overdrive have been a little funky. It seems like I have no 1st gear. When I shift it down to 1, I have no problem getting the slicks to squeal. But, in drive and overdrive, I can't do it. It's only been doing this since I put in the shift kit. What could be wrong? Could it be the TV cable? It also seems that under easy acceleration, it doesn't shift until too high of an RPM. Could these problems be related? ANY help would be greatly appreciated. I want to get this fixed before I take it to the track. Thanks in advance.

A loose TV cable can cause the shifts to hold over too far. GM transmissions tend to hate 1st gear, and dislike 2nd a little. So in drive or overdrive it may not be easy to get the transmission to shift back down to 1st if its already in another gear. Check out the TV cable first. It has a very surprising effect on the transmission's operation.

Plus, the line pressure (what the TV cable controls) is nearly doubled when the shifter's in "1st" or "2nd". That extra line pressure might be making up for a poorly adjusted TV cable... but be sure- you probably don't want to break halfway down the track!
