Help, Installed Electric Fan, What's Wrong.

OK, here's my setup I have a Griffin aluminum radiator with a 160* stat, I had a belt driven fan on there and it wouldn't run hot unless in traffic in 100* weather, but the car usually runs about 170*.
I installed a Perma Cool 2400 cfm fan to free up some horsepower. I start the car and let it get to 210* and turned the fan on, it never dropped below 210* and started to rise a little, so I just turned the car off. Any ideas as to why this fan isn't working.

it can be both, I have it set up for puller, it's only a 12" fan though, I think that's the problem

Two reasons, first it takes anywhere from 4000-4800 CFM to cool a modded small block. Second, the Perma-cool fans are junk and do not even come with a shroud. Also you only used a 12" fan? Why not a 16" or even two 12" fans?

Well my brother had it laying around, and I was hoping that it would work.

One 12" fan aint gonna do it.

FYI the factory single fan is like 16 or 17" and is marginal IMO. Get another fan is my suggestion.

The perma-cool fan also moves alot of air compared to the stock fan. I am not real happy with the lack of a shroud, but I guess you can't win them all. Verify the air is actually moving the direction you want it. More than once I followed the directions for setting the direction of airflow through a fan and have had problems. Ten minutes later when the engine doesn't want to cool you stick your hand in front of it and feel the air coming out the front of the car. Whooops, reverse leads and everything gets better. Maybe the fan was wired wrong, maybe the instructions were crap.

In the end you still may need dual fans. You are only pushing air through a 12" circle of the radiator. Even if the air is moving fast that still may not be sufficient. The only other thing I can think of is to leave the stock shround in place. That might force a small draft to pull air through the radiator other than where the fan is.

Perma Cool fans are junk. I had one 16" fan rated at 2900CMF and one 10" rated at 1250CMF and the single 16" fan worked better than the 2 Perma-Cools. Do yourself a favor and throw that fan in the trash. I did with mine.
