my cars been overheating......today they brought my radiator to be pressure flushed....they guy said the radiator is not my problem and my mom told them the symtoms

it overheates when sitting and if u take the cap off the thermostat opens and coolent fountains out the car will sit till it gets to 260 then it will boil over ...and die..and u cant crank it back up

the guy said i could have a blown headgasket and it broke near an exhaust (forgot this part) and it was causing my engine to overheat

what do u think?

 

Usually when a engine overheats at idle, and not on the highways, it's because there's not enough airflow through the radiator or an inadequate amount of coolant.

But, if you've let it run hot enough to 260+ to stall the motor, that very wel could mean you've blown the head gasket..at the least.

If the headgasket is the cause of water spewing out of the radiator, you can get the coolant analyzed for HC's to verify it. radiator shops used to do this for next to nothing.

 

sounds like your car is just overheating to the point it won't run anymore.. my bet is you would then probably have a problem with it dieseling if you shut it off because the pistons are so hot the motor will run without spark..

i would first start with a thermostat change to see if possibly your thermostat is sticking closed..

after that make sure your fans are coming on, remember these 3rdgens will overheat if they idle because there's very little air that can go through the rad.. you will need your cooling fans on (if equipped) very soon after idling the car.. if your car is equipped with a clutch fan the fan should not spin freely when the fan is cold.. of it does, replace the fan clutch..

make sure you have the correct ratio of water to coolant..

check your oil, if it's milky you have coolant in the oil, same thing for the radiator (if you were having foaming or milky residue) you have oil in your cooling system.

if the car runs OK your problem is 90% not a head gasket, if you blow the gasket the car will miss badly because of compression being lost between cylinders...

if the car runs good look into the cooling system, change the Coolant Temp Sensor, Fan Switch, and make sure your fans are coming on..
