horsepower estimate?
Could i get some experienced opinions on what this engine is going to potentially put out. It's going to be going into a TA project that i picked up with no motor or tranny. Here's the specs..
350 sbc .040 over,flat top pistons-4 valve relief,carefully assembled.
Cam has 223/223 dur.at 50,447-447 lift
Edelbrock Torker 2 intake
Holley 600 carb
Shortie headers with possibly dual exhaust
882 heads with some bowl work,76cc.(9.0-1 comp.?)
I know some of these parts aren't ideal, but it's the best i could manage to scrounge up.i've got alot of other stuff to buy for this car.i'd just like to know if i've put together something descent. Thanks for your time.

Hmmm..... let's see.... how can I be gentle....
It doesn't get any worse. I've beaten that motor time and time again, with anything and everything I've ever built. If I was going to sit down and create the parts list I would NOT use in a build-up, it would have EVERY ONE of those parts on it.
It has the worst possible of everything. Smogger heads, the T2 intake, the 151 cam, the 1850 carb. It's the very poster child for a disappointing street motor build-up in a 74 Nova 350 2-barrel or something in 1979. You're obviously too young to have been there, so believe me when I tell you, it's been done about a million times before, and always with the same result. Disappointment.
I don't want to be mean to you or anything; but that isn't worth the gaskets it's put together with. If you haven't assembled it yet, don't waste the soft parts and fluids on it, only to get out on the street and get spanked by LG4 cars. Please consider that as a piece of friendly advice, not as some kind of judgement. I'm serious. All you'll do is destroy some gaskets and soil some otherwise usable fluids, by associating them with that combo. Save up your pennies until you can get yourself some decent parts.

I agree with the above comments. How ever I understand that sometimes you gotta try something to learn. I hate to admit it, but I paid over $100 to have a set of 993 heads rebuilt to put on the 350 in my camaro. A hundred people here could have told me it was a stupid idea and I still would have done it. I started with a early 70's 350 complete all of the way down to the cast iron 2 bbl intake and rebuilt it with flat top pistons, an "RV" cam, Edelbrock performer intake, and Edelbrock carb. When I got done I was going to run in the 13's or something and guess what? It was slower than before I rebuilt it. Later I tried to sell those heads in a yard sale for $10 and no one would buy them.
I guess what I am trying to say is I believe in the use what you have mentality, especially if you don't have much $'s to spend. But if you can change a couple parts the hp to dollar ratio will be much more favorable. Maybe find some dirt cheap 305 heads and Ebay a better suited intake. Maybe change the cam to match the other parts better. You don't have to scrap the whole project, just try to match it up better.
Good luck

Okay............Thanks for the honest opinions. As of right now,i've got the bottom end assembled and haven't put the heads or intake on.In my defence,I did say that the parts weren't what i would have chosen if i had a choice.I tried to get parts locally and did the best i could. You would not believe the fees and duties involved in getting stuff state-side.I once got an order from Summit that totaled about 120 $ and it cost me over 70 $ in fees to get it here. I've got a stock aluminum 305 h.o. intake that i could use, would that work better since it's a dual plane?Would 305 heads work better even with the small valves? What would be some good castings to look for.I figured the 882s' with flat- top pistons would give me around 9.0 to 1 compression,i didn't think that was too bad.Good wrench crate motors only have about 8.3 to 1 if you can believe what you read.
Part of me wonders if you guy's are expecting alittle more out of this engine than i am.The engine that's in my car now(see sig.) doesn't look that good on paper, but it works great, even with 193(gasp) heads.14's are pretty quick to me.I'd be happy if this new motor worked as good.I'd be interested to hear some ideas. That's why i'm here....
