Getting spark plugs "in-line" = 25% increase in power???? WTF????

I was talking to this guy I know today. And he was talking about something (I can't remember what cuz it sounded like bull****) with the spark plugs. He said something about getting them all "in line" would net a 25% increase in HP. What is he talking about? I know he is BSing with the 25% increase, but what are "in line" spark plugs. He mentioned something about the spacer on the plug. Thanks.

He's talking about "indexing" the plugs, I serously doubt 25% increase in power...maybe, .25% increase...maybe.

But for all the work it'd be to index plugs on an F-body (assuming you have stock exhaust manifolds), I'd just leave the spare out in a race

i would tend to think you would only notice indexing on the plugs if you were in some type of serious racing where all of the cars have the same specs (NASCAR, open track) and 4-5 horsepower can mean hundredths of seconds around a track..

in town it would be a waste of time to index, imo..

and those platinum +4 plugs, or the splitfires, total waste of cash.. get a standard platinum or stay with an AC R43TS or something similar...

It's a very small percentage. The percentage depends on how far from 'in-line' the plugs were already. If most of the plugs were already 'in-line' before the indexing, you would see no gain. If all the plugs were not 'in-line' you would see a small percentage gain. The a high HP engine the small percentage translates into a small power gain. In a street car it's a waste of time, IMO.

In case you dont know, "Line-up" "indexing" means having the flame part of the spark plug facing the cylinder bore as much as possible. You make a mark indicating where the "arm" is, which is where it would be in the way then turn the plug till that mark is pointing right where you want it. The spacer is so that if you dont get the right torque, you can put a spacer on there to help get the plugs tight.

Hope this helps
