Is my tach bad????
Is my tach bad????
At the strip, I would shift it down to 1 and do my burnouts/launching. Anyways, during the burnout, the tach went up to 7K everytime!! This can't be right, can it? Is there any way the sender for the tach could be bad? Or could it be just the tach? The tach is from a V6 car if that makes any difference at all. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

If u have a v8 hooked up to a v6 tach it will not work, the v6 tach is calibrated different so it will read wrong when u have a v8 hooked up. Your going to have to get a aftermarket tach
Do you have slicks on your car? If you're burning in 1st on the floor 7 is a distinct possibility. When I do my burns I do it in drive at about 1/2 throttle so it still goes up through the gears. You want about 70 mph tire speed with low RPM. Don't burn the hell out of them because they won't work, and for god's sake please don't be doing burns on street tires.

My speedo has been off too. I have a 3.27 rear and tires with a larger profile than the stock 16" IROC rims. The speedo gear I have is for a 3.23 rear and stock size 16" IROC tires. So, the gear is right. The speedometer seems to be off by more the faster I go. I just calibrated it so it sits on the little mark at zero. Thanks for the help.

IIRC the oil pressure gauge is different in the 6-cylinder dash; seems like it goes to 80 instead of 60, at least in some years.
AFAIK you should be able to swap the little circuit board that goes on the back of the tach, not necessarily the whole tach. That way your pointers and scales will all stay matching, if you keep your existing ones.
