ac transplant

I have a perfectly working ac unit in my totaled 89 trans am... i want to put it in my 85..... can i transplant the whole thing w/o emptying it? ..... both cars have the engine and nearly all of the interior out.... the 85 had ac, but the previous owner removed the compressor and it's emptied....

thanks

heh... yes you can. Would I? no... but that's just because I'm a wimp when it comes to harmful chemicals under pressure being exposed right infront of my face

Yes you can do that, it is very easy.

Take off the top of the evap housing (about 15 small screws) and remove the compressor from the engine and the condenser from behind the radiator; they will all lift right out as a unit. Have a couple of helpers so you can do it without bending any lines or otherwise damaging anything.

Anly problem I can see, is the compressor drive pulley. Changing that over would require changing the clutch.

Gonna be fun moving all that without bending a line or two or all of em. Especially with a bunch of buddies helping all drinking beer. Someone stumbles and falls and his head goes thru the condenser. Ends up with a severe case of frost burn around his neck and sholders.

Compressor clutch.... the electromagnetic thing that connects the compressor to engine power, that the belt goes around
