What is the advantage of TPI over Carb

What is the advantage of TPI over Carb, I cant fix my TPI so I am starting to consider this transformation and want to know what I will be missing. I know it has to be easier to fix. I just had a new problem occur now it goes into closed loop nomatter what after about 5 sec of it running. (if you could help me heres a link to a different thread of mine https://www.thirdgen.org/techbb2/sho...88#post2168788 ) Thank-you

Fixing the tpi will be alot easier then converting over to a carb.

First off, do you have anything in the ALDL connector when your datalogging? The min time to enter closed loop on a hot start will be like 30 seconds. Dont put a resister or anything like that in the ALDL terminal. Depending on the resistance, this can cause the computer to force closed loop for diagnostic purposes.

As far as the timing goes, did you remember to disconnect the EST bypass connector before setting the base timing?

Lastly, what kind of readings do you get from the sensors? Have you checked the egr? With MAF a stuck/leaking egr wont be as bad but it can still cause a lousy, surging idle.

I cant remember if i had anything in the ALDL connection i will have to remember that, i do remember seeing it go into closed loop when it said it was only 87* so it was probably plugged in, I have the EGR blocked off b/c i snapped one of the tubes going to it, (i meant to replace that) , and when I did the timing I did remember to disconnect it. I hate to just keep throwing money into the car b/c I cant diagnose it.
Carb. just seems so much easier with less problems, (I do like TPI its just so hard to fix)

Diagnosing

Is there a way to diagnose TPI correctly?? Are there steps I can follow to find the problem?? It is becoming very frustrating not having any idea what the problem is, I take suggestions from what people say on these boards and thats it.

if this is a street-driven car, you might also be missing streets if you can't pass inspection.

I am from western NY and still considering carb vs. efi because of emissions, but I heard you guys in NYC have much stricter rules.

Yea Im from long Island, we normally have stricter rules but when my fathers friend owns a shop, its sort of easy to pass inspection.
