Not Starting
ok, i'm visiting my aunt and uncle down in destin fl, drove 1000 miles from northern IL. it ran fine the whole way down here, and what not, drove around today, ran fine. went to go start the car, it wouldn't start, everything would turn over, but it would fire. said ok, let it sit for about 20 min, then went and started it. it turned over and fired just like normal, but when i went to put my foot on the gas, it sounded lean, like it wasn't gettin enough fuel and didn't have the tradtional low rumble sound that it usually makes, more of a basic, well 6 motor sound with not depth. backed it into the street, sprayed my tire shine on. let it sit for about a half hour, went and started the car, it sounded normal again, low rumble, fired right away, just as if it nothing had happened. put it back in the drive way. then about 3 hours later, had to move it so my aunt could put her over sized lexus away. and it started doin the turn over but not firing bit again. peachy. so i pumped the gas 3 times, seein if i could get some gas to it, tried to start it again, nothing. then i started turning the key to the accesory pos, but i didn't hear my fuel pump turn on, so, my question is, does this happen often, how do i fix it if i can at all and if i can't how long would it take a dealer to do so. i'm on spring break and have to be back in classes and @ work on the 21st of march so kinda need some help as soon as possible.
I live in Destin.
Send me a PM if you want to bring it by and we might can figure it out, use some of my tools...
If you need to have a shop look at it...
Panhandle Performance in Valparaiso (north side of bay) 850-678-6988
Preston Hood Chevrolet in Fort Walton on Hollywood Blvd 850-664-7000
Panhandle will do a good job and not make you bend over as bad on their rates...like everwhere else in Destin and surrounding areas.
Edit: Any codes?
I'd check fuel pressure with a guage, cap and rotor, wires/plugs, vacuum leaks for a start. Could be something simple...
Replacing a fuel pump would take a few hours at Panhandle Performance if it was something like that. Couldn't do something like that in my garage, already have too much I'm fixing on my homefront.
Also....the Goodyear place east of McDonalds and west of Gold's Gym and USA Gold Gymnastics on US98 in Walton COunty between Destin and Sandestin. 269-2522
Good mechanics, so a thorough job....but charge a lot. They have to pay those Destin rates for rent and food around here.

ok, this morning i went out, tried to start the car, still nothing, but i did notice the fuel pump did turn on.i called my one friend up @ home in IL, today, he thought that from what i told him, (same thing i described on here). he told me to pull one of the plugs, and if the end was wet, that it was possible the distributor having been moved just right that it would through off timing, but it was dry, so we came to the conclusion that the fuel filter was cloged so bad no gas was getting through it and that it needed to be replaced. i'm thinkin this is a simple fix, which it is. thanks for the info on places to go, just in case it isn't the fuel filter.
