L98 Timing
Guys, i've got a big timing problem. I've just finished putting together a TPI 350 for my 82 T/A. All of the engine is stock except for the camshaft. I don't have the specs right here at the moment, but it's just a little less than the ZZ9. I unplugged the ecm connector on the firewall and adjusted the timing to 6* BTDC. Then I reconnected the ECM wire and now my timing is jumping all over the place and is reading around 30. I've been reading that it should come out to around 10-12. The engine is sounding healthy, but you can definitely tell it's not running quite right. The worst is when the ecm is connected. The damn thing is going all over the place trying to compensate. Could my distributor be in wrong? I have yet to check my fuel pressure on the new AFPR, but I don't know how much that would affect it. Maybe it needs a new prom to help with the cam. I just need to get the thing running so I can get it around and get some break in time on it. Any help from you timing gurus is greatly appreciated.
