Remove the oil pan with the engine in the car?

hey,

My '83 automatic car with the origional/stock (afaik) engine. Can I pull the oil pan off with the engine and tranny still in the car?

I'm having some problems and want to rule out or confirm lower end trouble before yanking the engine.

If the pan can be dropped and removed with the engine in the car, are there any tricks to make it go smooth (relatively)?

any insight is appreciated

thanks

not without some lifting of the motor.

Yes he's right. You have to lift as high as you can and it will take some maneuvering around the get the pan to clear the rods and counterweights on the crank. You might even have to bump the engine a few times to move the position fo the crank if it doesnt come out after a few tries. And dont forget to take off the dist cap. IF you lift it up too high it will crush against the firewall.

Like everyone else said, Raise it several inches and your pan will come off easily. No matter what, I would remove the distributor.

i removed my distributor and raised the engine up about 6"

when it was that high I had no trouble getting the pan off and on..

Thanks for all the advice.

I pulled the engine anyway this weekend. Turns out it was a bent rod . could've been worse

thanks
