Smoke on startup??`
My 1990 IROC puffs out some blue smoke upon starting it in the morning or after a prolonged stop somewhere (parking lot, etc). I have heard that it could either be a problem with the piston rings or the valve cover gaskets. Is there any easy way to figure that out aside from getting a compression test and leakdown test?

nah,it's your valve guides / valve stem seals..
gotta pull the heads off for that one, unless you want to change the seals with the heads on the car (not fun)
no worries, it's a standard SBC problem, they've all done is since the SBC was an engine.. it's probably fixed in the newer engines but the older ones always smoked a bit when you hit the key
