Distributor Swap QandA

I have the LG4 305 and it has a strange type of HEI Distributor in it with an external coil, the coil has two dual wire harness plugs that attatch to the top of it along with the main coil (spark plug type) wire. I would like to put the standard internal coil type HIE in the car, how and will i be able to do this?

There's nothing "strange" about the later-model style of HEI that I know of. It's possible to swap them; but there's no particular reason for putting the old style one in there. It's not any better in any way.

They don't have the same small-signal wiring, that carries the RPM signal to the computer and all that. It would require considerable hacking on the wiring, which is probably not a good idea.

What is it that you want to accomplish by doing this?

A cheaper way to upgrade the coil.
