Converting from T5 to automatic
Converting from T5 to automatic
I am converting my 1989 RS from T5 to 700r4. Does the wiring harness already have a connection for the converter lockup or do I have to figure this out by myself?
Can I keep the same steering column?
Thanks in advance.

I am not sure if the wiring is ther or not, but the ecm will have the out put you need. I can tell you what pin it is later tonite when I get home and look at my schematics. You can also hook up a pressure switch inside the tranny that will activate the lockup clutch at the right pressures. I have used both methods with success. Using the ecm is nice because you can change your lockup points. Basically the ecm switches the ground side on and off, and you supply 12VDC throught the brake pedal switch to the trans. That way when you hit the brakes the lockup unlocks.
Now for the big question, what are you doing with your pedal assembly, clutch hydraulics and bellhousing, because i would be very interested in them.

Here's what I am doing. My current car is a 1991 RS convertible T5 with 280,000 miles (original engine, heads never taken off). I just purchased a 1989 RS convertible (auto) with 55,000 miles -- it's a creampuff.
I am going to switch transmissions and sell the 1991 (with auto). I don't have any extra parts to sell (sorry) but want to hook up the automatic properly.
