What are the odds that the only safety device on my car (the driver's air bag) is still functional after 14 years of sitting on the steering column?

Heaven help me if I have to find out the hard way but I am curious about this.

I would assume as long as it has not been deployed it should still work. I know i read allot of complaints on i think it was NSTA something like that about how the airbag did not deploy in front end crashes

 

I meant to add that upon ignition, the airbag dummy light appears to be working fine indicating to me that it is passing all diagnostics. This is somewhat comforting but there is still the integrity of the bag itself that is the question. Now the issue about it not deploying in a front end collision...

I cant seem to find the site but it had the dates the complaints were listed and talked about the third brakelight and i remeber one about a guy hitting a bump and his t-top shatterd. This was a few years ago so i dont have the site bookmarked anymore.

 

Far as I've been told, the dealer tests them free.
