Intake question

Is there an oil shield or something on the bottom of the intake you need to switch over to the new one? I just installed a Edelbrock Performer but did not have the old intake so I'm not sure... please say no...

If there's a provsion for it, it's a good idea to use it, keeps hot oil from splashing on the bottom of the intake and heat soaking spots of it.

If it isn't totally necessary I'm going to leave it off for now. I just cringe at the thought of having to pull it back apart.... Will it effect performance much because the intake is hotter? Anyone else running without it?
