My guess as to why you can't find the wires you need is that you don't have those wires. Because unless someone changed your '88 to a coil-in-cap ignition, it should have the separate side-mounted ignition coil, not a coil-in-cap.
The last year for coils-in-caps was 1986(and some early '87s). The separate ignition coil came in 1987.
You can get just the coil, or you can get the coil in a package that also comes with a cap and rotor(part #4054).

ok my car does have the coil off to the side. I wasn't sure how this worked. Like if i was supposed to have both installed at the same time or if icould remove the other one or what the deal was. So i need to buy an Ignition coil and a cap w/ rotor?

If you don't want or need a new cap and rotor, you can buy just the coil(Hypertech part #4052). If you want the package containing all three parts, it's #4054.

It wouldn't be expensive to go ahead and change them. And with the new stronger coil, I'd change them just to make sure I'm getting the most out of my ignition. But maybe that's just me.
Either way, you'll probably be fine.

From what I hear, you can't really go wrong with either MSD or Hypertech as far as ignition goes...
