EGR question
EGR question
My car's "Service engine soon" light comes on a lot now and it's always old code 32. I just recently, by some stroke of luck, lost my smog stuff and all the guts of my converter some how fell out. Does that have anything to do with the constant code? Also I'm thinking of swithing to a non-EGR intake and dumping the EGR all together since it doesn't work now and it doesn't seem ot hurt me (no ping). Is this possible/wise? Any long term damage? I don't have to pass emmisions here in VA, so that isn't a concern.
Thanks in advance for the help!!!

Your low exhaust backpressure may have affected the pilot valve in the EGR valve. The EGR may not open without adequate pressure in the exhaust, and the ECM does not see the anticipated change in MAP signal when the EGR is supposed to be turned on by the ECM and EGR solenoid.
You should also check the EGR vacuum solenoid valve to make sure it is working and that the EGR valve itself is opening. There should also be a vacuum source at the EGR solenoid valve.
If the EGR or intake manifold ports are coked with carbon, the EGR opening will not have the desired effect. The MAP will not detect the pressure change and set the code.
You could run without the EGR, but it DOES help keep the chambers cooler and allows more spark advance.
