Smoke off the top of the engine..

I bought a car monday not far from wher i live and as i pulled into my drive with it i noticed smoke comming in the car and when i got the hood up smoke was comming off the rear left side of the engine (looking from the front of the car).

My guess is a blown gasket. Is there any easy way to tell if its a valve or a head gasket as one is far easier to replace than the other.

The car turned out to be an 84 camaro Z28 with the HO option. Is this thing worth anything cause of that?

EVERYONE SEEMS TO WANT A HO SO YOU MAY HAVE SOMETHING DEPENDING ON A LOT OF FACTORS SUCH AS CONDITION, RUST, MILEAGE, COLOR, OIL LEAKS, ETC.

YOU HAVE TO START THE ENGINE WHEN IT IS COLD AND REALLY GET UNDER THE HOOD AND LOOK FOR THAT SMOKE.

WHAT COLOR IS THE SMOKE?
BLUE, WHITE OR BLACK?
IS IT CONSTANT OR ONLY WHEN CAR IS MOVING OR ON STARTUP?
WE NEED MORE INFO?

Stop yelling!

My guess would be a leaking valve cover gasket.

I'll second what Stephen said. About a 90% chance it's the valve cover gasket, and the oil runs down the side of the head and gets on teh manifold. Extremely common.
