ignition problems

ok, i own a 90 irocz 350 .... recently i took it to get it inspected, droped it off for an early morning deal ... guy calls me up the next morning tells me the thing won't start, hence at the time i quickly ran to the ign module in the glove box and slapped it in .... bang, started right up ... later that night i go out for takeout, on the way home it leaves me on the road of the exit ramp " kinda sucked" ..... triple A to the rescue ... so, now ... its done this to me twice, i let the car run in my driveway yesterday for 40 minutes till it shut itself off ... after i put in a SP O.E ign coil and tryed to start it up, nothing. ok, so today i fire it up around 5:15 .. it continues running till 7 when i shut it off and it fires back up "with the new coil in place" .... my plan is now this, i'm gonna fire it up tomorrow and run it for 3 hours, if does i'm getting a msd gm blaster coil for it to get this O.E out, now to get to the question, Can a faulty ignition coil cause a safety switch to be thrown to stop fuel/spark and need to reset itself once the coil's out, thus once the computer reset and it started, the new coil is doing its job, i'm no mechanic and this has me completly crazy, but i think thats the problem, just not sure if the coil could cause a shutdown as a safety measure ... and i'm indeed right.

no one? ... i'd just really like to know if a faulty ign coil can cause the computer to shutoff and need time to reset, which is why this cheap coil i have is keeping the car running and all i need to do now is replace it with something with more volts .... thanks ahead of time, ....

OK, i just went out to let it idle and it won't start, now i'm clueless and completely pissed off. i have no clue.

First.. A faulty coil can't cause the computer to shut off.. that's a passkey thing and it's controlled by the resistor plug in your key and the passkey reader module under the dash.

hence at the time i quickly ran to the ign module in the glove box and slapped it in
Perhaps I'm not that familiar with Camaros, but what "glove box" are you referring to ? Is this the hatched storage area in between the seats, or is it the pouch on the passenger side of the dash ?

Where in this glove box is the ignition module mounted.. Can you see it when you look inside the glove box ?

On my 1990 5.7 TPI 'Bird, the only ignition module I'm aware of is mounted under the distributor cap. I'm sure you have one there too.

If the module under the distributor cap is intermittent, or there is corrosion in one of the weatherpac connectors it can cause problems with spark.. It could be this module is causing your problems..
