Just got 350 from the Junk.

This Sat. I went to the junk and got a 350 motor from '92.It got pulled out from a 2500 chevy truck.Any recommendations on what I should do with it?Like what is the max power it can handled and how is it possible?Right now it is in my Garage on the Engine Stand.

Well the first thing i would do is take off the oil pan. if it has 4 bolt mains you can do a lot to it. a 4 bolt main can even be stroked to a 383. i would take off the heads a check out the cylinder walls. look at the ware, it may need to be rebuilt. you should also remove the caps and see how the crank looks. before you modify you must check to see what kinda shape it is in.

well the oil pan is in good shape, the block is good from the outside,I have to take the oil out(it still has oil in it with a Bosch filter.I think the right cylinder head is gone, because the valve cover has a 2-3 inch dent. The casting number is 14093638.I can't tell if it is a 2 or 4 bolt main cap though. If it is a 2 bolt main, then does it mean I can't upgrade to 383?

It doesn't matter if you have a 2 bolt or a 4 bolt main if you want to stroke it. Also, a 4 bolt won't necessarily handle more power than a 2 bolt will, it really depends on the rpm's you plan to turn. 2 bolt blocks are ususally good to 400+ hp as long as you keep the revs under control. Since your block is from a truck, its most likely a 4 bolt, though.

well i looked at the casting number and it could be either a 2 or 4. But you said it doesn't really matter. You think it could handle 450hp.What do you recommend TransAm383?
