overcharging ---> dead
overcharging ---> dead
86z28 lg4 auto. my car sat for a couple days last week and when i went to start it, the battery was dead. i charged it and its been starting fine since friday (july 20th). then i go to work today, come home, it sits for 5 hours and its dead again. not totally but not enough to crank, just to click. my friend noticed that its been overcharging (going into the red on the guage), and says that this has something to do with it. ive also been told that a bad battery will not only do this seeminglt random discharging, but it can be "overcharging" as mine is. is this true? the alternator is about 6 months old and the battery is 5 years old. can anyone give me some insight to this? thanks.

How many times have you ever had to boost or charge it? It will never fully recover from being completely drained. A few times is OK, but after that it won't be as strong.
