Brake pads- which ones??
Okay, it's time to replace my front brake pads. I called to inquire on the GM ones for my car. Roughly $170 for the fronts, and I believe they are ceramic. I thought that was a bit much so I went to Checker, and they had metallic pads for around $110. I'm debating on which ones I should go with. Price aside, I want to buy the better of the two. Is there really any performance difference, or would they both work equally well?
Thanks.
Thanks.
What the hell pads are you buying for $110.00??? I use to work for checker, and I bought myself the "Nascar" Raybestos set for like $35.00

The ones from GM are the replacement pads, and they are very expensive. But like I said, is there really a difference in these as opposed to the metallic pads sold at Checker Auto? There is like a $60 difference in price.
At checker the ceramic "Quietstop" pads are probably like $70, the carbon metallic "Brutestop" are about $50, and the semi metallic are $20-30. Im not sure what "Superstop" is, but those prices you got are way high.
Don't pay more than $70 bucks if you want ceramic. Hell, I could buy them and ship them for less than $80.
A word of advice.. DONT BUY FROM DEALERS! They jack up the price like 200% because they can take advantage of customers who don't know any better. The semi metallic pads sold at Checker Auto are replacement, there is probably little difference. They are just relined pads, maybe the GM ones are new. Thats the only rationalization of that price that I can make up.

I just took my car to my mechanic friend, and he put new pads all around on my GTA (four wheel disc) he just put the pads on, that was it. He charged me $75 labor, and the rest was for the AC Delco Pads. The total bill was $187. the front pads were $38, and the back ones were $60. He told me the back ones were going to be expensive because of the rear being disc also. I guess most of the cars have drums. I know on my car, that the rear calipers look different then the front. They have fins on them.

Okay, it seems that the prices were low on these pads. GTAs' have the performance package and that is where the price hike came into play. Both the Delcos' and the Brute-stops (from Checker) are very expensive. I guess that's the price you pay for performance...

I plan on getting Hawk pads next time I need to change them. I think the circle track guys use those which makes them pretty good. I had those Brute Stop pads and they ate up some new rotors very quick, but the standard raybestos ones I have now are doing fine. Those ceramic "heavy duty" ones are really good too, used on cop cars I think, but you should be able to get them cheaper. I'm not sure how much Hawks are, too much and I'll stick with the cheapies.
