Starter Installation
Hello,
I managed to get the old starter removed. Actually once you figure out the trick its not too hard. Now I cant seem to flip the new one in, once I get it in it seems to be about 180 degrees off. Whats the trick? Should I try spinning it clockwise or counterclockwise? Id remove the solenoid but thats not an option. Any advice is appreciated, I quit for the evening, tired and hungry.
Whats the procedure for shimming, should i first try it then take the jackstands out and start it on the ground or can I start it while its on the stands (doesnt seem like a good idea but might as well ask)?
Thanks
Martin

You need to put it in so that the starter is facing the right direction, iirc..try putting it in with the starter facing down and the solenoid facing you, and then spin it to the right when it is through so the starter will bolt on correctly. It feels like it will never work, but it does eventually.
If you didn't need shims before, you probably shouldn't now. Starting it on jackstands won't make any difference, since the starter is bolted to the engine.

Thanks!
I got it in. The trick is to face the solenoid (connections) up, and slide them in first, its the opposite the way u think, then u have to spin it just right and itll slide into place. I hope this helps someone else.
Thanks Again
