timing?

timing?

Ok installed new dist. but wont go in the same as the old. there is a mark on the balancer, do i align this with the 0 mark on the timing tab or what? thanks for the help

With the #1 cylinder on the comrpression stroke (remove the plug and feel for air coming out the plug hole) Then put the engraved mark of the balancer in line w/ 0* on the timing tab. Now drop the distributer in and put the cap on and note where the #1 plug wire goes on the cap. Pull the cap off, and if the rotor isn't pointing to where the #1 on the cap is, you will need to pull the dist and turn accordingly.
The hardest part is getting the rotor lined up properly along w/ the oil pump drivesahft. The distributer will not fully seat unless the oil pump driveshaft is lined up. It splines w/ the bottom of the distributer and you will have to take a long screwdriver and turn it so it lines up.
