Jet Performance Chips

I am interested in getting a chip for my car and I see that Jet offeres a Stage 1 and Stage 2 chip for the 84 camaro/firebird H.O. Do you guys think it is a good idea to change the chip, and does Jet make good chips.

also would i need a stage one or stage two, i have the L69 motor and I am going to be putting on a 750cfm Jet Carb with an edelbrock performer intake and I already have edelbrock headders and waterpump with a stock thermostate, but i would be willing to change the thermostat if need be. And i have the stock HEI with an accel ignition module.

Save your money! Your stock chip and the Jet, will be very near identical. Use the money for your other mods instead. The big chip companys make the chip from a copy of yours, and change very little, or nothing.

why do they say 18-20 hp power gain, how can they get away with selling something that does nothing?
Is there any chip that will help performance?

Why are you looking into chips for performance? Just wondering.

Take a person like yourself. Can you take the time and money,to set up your vehicle on a dyno, and do a comparasion of the two proms? Many people cant. So the magic of advertising comes into play, and they say it will, in order to get the $200.00 from you. I guarentee you, you will not notice any more power, with the new prom over the original. We just B/S ourselves into thinking we felt it, trying to justify the money we wasted.

I for one was wasting money dealing with ASM, and their so-called "custom" proms. After I began following the threads on the DIY Prom board, and decided to start looking into things myself, I was truly amazed, when I was able to read the program they had charged me hundreds of dollars for. Im talking very, very, little changes. And here is the kicker, if you change cubic inches, or need another program...CHA-CHING!, Thats another $200.00 ! My equipment already has paid for itself. Im just grateful a Moderator on that board had helped me open my eyes.

you're carburated, you won't benefit from a chip.

Yea, Z28, I didnt even realize you were running a carb,(DUH!) I just saw it in the first post. That makes the desision a whole lot easier. Buy some good proven parts, and forget about the prom alltogether.

Wrong. I ran that same stage 2 chip as the original poster, and all it did was lighten the wallet. Performance gain was non-existant. Total waste of money if you ask me.

However, I recently came across a ZZ4 ECM/PROM setup, and can disprove the myth that a "chip" will not affect a CCQJets performance. Power from off idle to 4000 is quite noticable, while WOT feels no different. And the annoying afterfire is gone.

And to anyone who claims that any benefits seen with a chip could be accomplished by increasing base timing, you're delusional.
