The trans has nothing to do with the rear seal. Make sure the flywheel has the right bolt pattern to the crank and the T/C. Make sure the bell housing pattern matches your block.

You may already know about this, but I got to state it so others don't do what I did.

Make sure you have the right diameter flexplate or flywheel to match the starter that is to be bolted to the block!

Don't do what my dum butt did. I didn't pay attention and had the new engine and rebuilt tranny just about fully installed into the car, only to find out that my 1974 350 block was only machined for the 168 tooth starter, and I had installed a new 153 tooth flex plate. I didn't know there was a difference in the starter bolt locations. So I didn't know to have the block drilled for the other starter bolt when I had the block machined.

I had to pull it all out, and buy a 168 tooth starter and flexplate. Then tear it all appart to install the new flex plate.

Waisted a full day of my Vac. to fix my mistake.

and to add to that, dont do what MY dumb butt did and put the flexplate on backwards. The mounting tabs for the torque converter will go OUTWARDS, towards the transmission, NOT inwards, toward the engine.

that one shows how a flexplate is SUPPOSED to be.

That is what it's NOT supposed to be like.

I ended up putting the engine in the bay, no tranny yet thankfully, then looked at the pictures again and went "aweee heck" and had to undo it from under the car, and re-torque the bolts... under the car lol.
