What to look for on a 3rd gen?
Howdy all, I currently own a 1981 2nd Gen Camaro, and I'm looking at an 84 Z/28 Tomorrow evening. I have to work until 7 so it'll be in the dark, I figure bring a flashlight and a screw driver, and stab the under body of the car like the drivers side and pass side floor pan and check for rust? Where else are these cars notorious for rust? I just want to know what I should be checking, the guy on this car said he had the body work done in 2002. Said he replaced the fender(s)? Are they known for rot there, or am I looking at a possible crash victim here?
Sorry if this is the wrong spot for this, new to this forum
Thanks in advance,
Alex.

If it has been winter driven and not undercoated chances are it has a lot of rust. I would never look at anything in the dark, but if you must bring a very powerful flash light. Nothing worse then buying a car in the dark, going back and seeing you just bought a lawn ornament. Also check that windshield posts, wheel wells, door jams, and the trunk for holes. Too see if it is an accident victim, check to make sure that the gaps on the doors, fenders, etc are all pretty even and meet up. If they guy seems to be hiding something, or won't let you give it a good inspection, I would just leave. Of course some of these things may be present, but the price may reflect this too. Good luck
