I know what you are saying. I have put my car from Nuetral to drive and reved it and it lunged forward slightly like it wasnt completley let loose.
i have always wondered myself.

shift lever slightly off?
happened to my buddy in his trans am, when he asked me about it i hopped in and checked it out, and it DID move forward slightly when you revved it but i couldn't really say why, i don't know much about trans. (or anything else for that matter, lol)
after playing with it for a minute i realized that the shift lever was off a little, and even though it clicked into place on the column it was still slightly off somewhere in the linkage. he had to put it between reverse and neutral to get it into actual neutral.
his overdrive never kicked in because of that, the farther down the column you went, the worse the ratio of error would get, so he wasn't actually in overdrive, lol.
must've happened in the tranny swap that the previous owner did.
maybe the same for you

In REALLY cold weather (like -35*) my T5 would act like that... start the engine, put the shifter in neutral, and let the clutch out, and just the thickness of the oil was enough to pull the engine speed down a fair bit and make the car move up maybe a foot.
Only in REALLY cold weather though.
