I read about cluncks, that seems to be an easy one. But what does an ENGINE KNOCK sound like. I'm having a brain fart right now but there are others that are writen but IF you have any sounds that you can explain it would help me out a lot.

ON a side note. My engine makes this kind of pfft-pfft-pfft. . . sound when I accelerate hard. If anyone can explain this I would appreciate it. I have an 89 IROC 350 TPI, rebuild last fall, otherwise stock, headers, new plugs-wires-cap-rotor-coil within the past month. Don't think was there right after that, but got rear ended a couple weeks ago and his car was forced between the bumper and tail pipes, and seems to be gettting louder since then, at least that I can remember, but could be imagining it. Oh and I only have about 2,000 miles since the rebuild.

 

I know that I am not much help man, but it could be part of your emission's system, Leaking air.

Your pft-pft-pft sounds like a header gasket. Look for signs of burning (black) of the header flange gasket. Also look at the collector gaskets.
