OK, this might belong somewhere else, but the concept was way too cool to not talk about it.
(work with me here, moderators)
The other day I went to a cruise night. I saw a 64 Ford Galaxy with a single overhead cam 427 in it, (if I have to explain what that is, then you're just too young).
The engine had the old school Hilborn fuel injection intake on it, now anyone that has run a mechanical injector knows that the big PITA with these is that you have to prime the injectors before the car will start (like a top fuel car). Guys have run electric pumps and misc stuff over the years to get around this, but it was all kinda mickey mouse.
What this guy did,(and it was brilliant) is to run the Hilborn intake and tubes, then installed late model fuel injection. He tapped out the mechanical injector holes and machined them to fit late model injectors. These injectors was computer controlled, I couldn't get a look at the entire system but it was a clean install.
The guy had a old school fuelie set up without the hassle, any ideas on where you could pick up the injector system? his appeared to be factory Ford, would GM have something like this?have any of you guys tried this?, because I might.
Mods, thanks for your cooperation.

It's all over ebay. Some guy makes injector bungs that you can drill out the holes and weld in yourself; another guy mods up intake bases with the injector bungs along the inside, next to the stacks, for "looks" (remember, nobody runs that any more to go fast, it's mostly street rodders); and so forth. Fairly commonplace nowadays, actually.

None of it was factory F*rd.... they never put a Hilborn on anything, any more than GM did.

Although, I dare say, even the severely compromised one with the rails and injectors between the stacks, would outrun the same motor with a TPI. Probably wouldn't get near the gas mileage though.

Thanks, that's it.
By factory Ford I meant the EFI part of it, not the original injectors, the 427SOHC had 2 4bbls

I thought the original Ford 427 was a single central camshaft, not OHC.

The "cammer" Fords came after the 427 was already running.

Little doubt that it would outperform a 427 with a conventional TPI (as we know them). It would probably almost make as much power as other EFI 427 engines, albiet at increaded level of emissions and lower fuel economy. The SBC-II 427 (LS7) makes a bit more emissions legal crank HP and torque, with its altered TPI (LS7 EFI) longer intake runners and single, central camshaft. It makes 505HP at the intersection of concrete and rubber, whereas the Ford did just over 600HP at the crank on pump gas in a dyno, back in '63 on 104 octane. The 7,200 RPM redline is very similar, too.

It was a pretty impressive feat back in '63 and '64. Those are some rather highly prized engines for rodders, Cobras, replicas, and such. Probably the best V-8 Ford ever built, or a really closed second to Clevelands.

Of course, this is all hypothetical, as if it were to be mounted in a ThirdGen body. Otherwise, it wouldn't matter.

That's true, the SOHC was the answer to Nascar allowing the hemi, but they saw the problem with the costs and only allowed "wedge"motors, so the SOHC went Hemi hunting in top fual and funny car. I saw an article back in about 70 where Mopar built a prototype SOHC hemi to answer the ford..........To be installed in a thirdgen.
I know more than I want to about these cars, one of my jobs is in a Ford restoration garage. Nothin but Shelby's around here...and the occaisional 3rd gen of course.
