Car getting really hot only around town

Just recently my car has been getting really hot around town, when I do stop and go driving. I know one factor is the extremely hot weather here in south georgia but I cant help that. Within the past year I have changed the radiator and water pump. Last night I changed the thermostat (180 degrees). It is full of coolant and that has been changed within the year. The fan is working fine, its been wired to stay on at all times. Like I said this has just recently started. It will get in the red on my gauge and then all of a sudden it will drop down to about 210 or 220. Then if I stop for a while it will creep back up. Could it be my temp. sensor by any chance?? This past winter my heater went out, I dont know why or if that has anything to do with it. Could I have a bad water pump, again? I plan on changing out the coolant this weekend and adding some water wetter stuff. What else could it be??

Make sure your radiator is free of debris, and make sure the air dam is still there.

Check your spark plugs to see if the car is running lean (not enough gas). A too lean fuel mixture will cause a car to run hot.

You could always change the CTS. I am taking a stab at it and am going to say you have 2 fans. The CTS is connected to the ECM and it will tell the car to turn on the fan at 22X*. I had the same problem with my car getting hot while sitting around abd of course while driving (ie more air to the radiator) it would cool off nicely. Well I just bought the $15 sensor and fixed the problem. Just a thought.

Radiator is brand new and free of debris. Air dam is still there and in great condition.

If the car is running lean what can I do about it?? I have an air/fuel gauge hooked up but its always bouncing back and forth from the computer constantly making changes.

I have an RS and it only has one fan. The one fan that I have stays on whenever the ignition is on, faulty sensor or wiring I guess.

Anyone else??

You say that 'you're full of coolant'...

You arn't running 100% antifreeze by any chance are you? This will cause overheating.
