timing

I know this a dumb question but I was just wondering where the dots on the timing chain line up at when #1 is on top dead center on its compersion stroke, are they facing each other or what? Also where does the distributor point at (what piston should be firing) thanks for any help

timing marks with the motor #1 cylinder top dead center are both at the top..

#6 cylinder TDC is cam sprocket dot down, crank sprocket dot up..

here's a FAQ on installing your distributor correctly, email me at admin@IROC-Z.org if yo'ud like some clarification
