Torque Peak too Low?

I'm getting ready to start my engine project this spring. I've already got a TPI system, and a line on some vortec heads. I know I have to use the Scoggin Dickey intake base. A local shop is going to build me a 355 short block for $1000. I'm going to use the mildest Comp Cams Extreme Energy (XE250H-10) for max low end torque.

With headers, Desktop Dyno says this thing will make over 430lbs of torque at 2000 rpm, so I'll be shifting at 5000 rpm. Is that too low to be considered usable? I know all the magazines are stressing low end torque these days, but torque peak at 2000 rpm? I just want a strong street motor, I'm not a teenager anymore.

430 ftlbs at 2000rpm would be great for a street motor. stump pulling torque at just a little over idle....

you might want to re-think your cam choice. Having that much torque down-low will hinder traction a lot. I am assuming that this car is to be street driven mostly, but still some strip.

It would be great for strip if you wanted to put slicks on it and get crazy low 60' times. But on the street, where it occassionally rains, snows, etc... it might be a little impractical.

That does seem awfully low... the original specs on my 350 (stock '79 Z28) were 275ft-lbs @ 2400rpm, and 190hp @ 3800rpm.

The off idle grunt is great, but this motor has athsma... it falls dead byt 4200 rpm.
