Posted this question in another thread, but just to make sure I get a reply, I made my own topic, so here's my question...

I want to disable my "SES" light...

How do I get to the bulb to unplug it?

Thanks guys

Take the bezel off the instrument cluster (about 8 or 10 Torx screws) and pull it out.

You are aware of course that it is required to be functional (and happy) when the smog Gestapo inspects your car?

Why would you want to disable it?
It lets you know if and when there is a problem along with getting you past the smog tests as stated above.
Unless there is something wrong on the car and your selling it to some poor soul?

The SES bulb is part of the circuitry involving the ECM when the engine is first turned on. If you disable the bulb, you MAY find that your ECM goes into Limp Mode and your car will not run properly.

If your SES light is on, you should fix the problem that is causing the SES light to turn on.

Did you know that there are different modes with EFI (and especially with SD) where there are really two modes: Fail Safe and Limp Mode? In Fail Safe, you just have a faulty sensor and the ECM will "impute" a value based on various "Stay Alive" tables and your engine will still run (sometimes fairly well). You are in Fail Safe Mode when the SES light remains on steadily.

In Limp Mode, the SES light flashes rapidly and you run off various circuitry...NOT THE ECM. On different cars, Limp Mode behaves differently; on some, the car may run reasonably well. On other cars, you may be lucky just to be able to pull the car over.

So be careful, you may cause more problems than you solve by disabling the SES light.
