FUEL PUMPS.... keep'em pumping!

I have a 87 chevy camaro... from my signature you can see what engine I have now. So far I have run the stock mechanical pump. But I have been thinking of changing it. THe problem is that the pump have three ports. The extra one is supposed to be for emissions. I also hear that the my card has and extra electric pump in the tank (previous L69) I have been thinking of puitting and aftermarket pump. The question is :
What do I do with that extra (third) port that goes on the mechanical fuel pump. I am understand that the mechanical pumpt only have an inlet and outlet, and no third port for emissions. Can I just plug it?

Fulo, exactly the question that I've been searching for the last couple of hours.

My car is also an 87 that came with the LG4, so it has the in-tank fuel pump for the carb version. I will be by-passing the ECM with my new engine set-up as well and I'm curious if the in-tank pump operates independently of the ECM.

I'm thinking that it would be best to keep the tank pump operational as a helper to the mechanical pump and therefore more efficent.

I have mounted on my engine now (still on the stand) an Edelbrock #1721 HP Street pump with just the two ports.

What to do with that damm return line? or am I better off switching back to the old Carter 3-port pump?

LOL.

Just plug the return line. You don't need to use it with most aftermarket pumps.
