Vacum and timing advance on new motor

Hi guys I have a new motor to set my timing on. It has a new crane cam it use to be the comp cam 2040 I am wondering what the timing would be right for this motor. I tried 4 and 6 degrees advance and didn not make a big differance. Although I have not driven the car down the road yet. (no plates no insurance...NO problem). I have lost the spec sheet on the cam (go Figure) and do not remember what it suggested the advance shoud be. I know there are some guys who know there stuff about cams in here so please let me know. Also what shoulds I be pulling for vacum in my motor and what makes it go up and down if I need more or less vacum... if I ever need to have less....dont think so? Please help, thanks

Are you asking about cam timing or ignition timing?

Assuming this is still a CC system, start at 6 degrees base and adjust to taste after you've got plates & insurance, and can test it on the street.
