I was on the freeway going about 65 and all of a sudden, I saw a big puff of smoke come out of my exaust, and I was like ok? Then my temp went from 160 to around 245 in a matter of seconds. I put my car in neutral and turn it off and coasted, I was in a bad spot on the free way, traffic on both sides of me, I pop my hood and my belt that goes around the alternator was all wraped up in my fan. So I get it back on and It seems to be running fine, has this ever happened to anyone? Well Thanks Greg

 

Im assuming you do not have a sepentine belt system. It sounds like your blet is not tight enough and it might slip off again. Adjust the belt or the accessory so its tighter and youll be fine.

 

that happened to me once in my '85z28, before it was stolen never to be seen again. my temp didn't go up, but the choke light came on. My alternator had slipped down and hrown the belt. Go to the hardware store and get a pressure washer set fro your alternater, and make the belt nice and tight.

 

I got them tight now but I was pissed because I was going to hooters! LOL, AND PLUS A Mustang was right behind me! Thats embarrasing

 

man, that sucks, but hey, at least you know that yours is better than the mustang, reguardless of a belt problem.
