how can u tell if it broke?

how can u tell if your waterpump is bad/going bad?
is there a 4sure way to tell other then install a new one and see if that fixes the problem??

What's the problem? Unless it's puking coolant out the weep hole or sounds like the bearings are going, it's probably not bad.

That's true - unless the impellar comes loose from the shaft. Pull the rad. cap off when the engine is cold, start it up and let it idle till the thermostat opens. When the t-stat opens, you should see the water flowing in the radiator. If the water kinda just sits there, you have problems. You should see a definate current in there.

That's how I check mine, and there's probably other ways too.
