Air Conditioner help!

So while running the car to fix a cooling fan problem (see my post in "cooling") I look up and see smoke comming out of the A/C compressor! I had the A/C running to see if any of the fans would kick on....I have never seen a compressor smoke before...is that normally how A/C compressors go out? *** I love to hate this GM POS.

You may have a clutch slipping on the A/C compressor. You'll need to clean out any oil, coolant overspray, paint, or other contaminants from the compressor clutch. The problem is the same on any Ford POS, Chrysler POS, Honda POS, Toyota POS, BMW POS, Benz POS, Rolls POS, or any otrher POS you might encounter. As a matter of fact, it's actually worse on some of those other POS examples, since they have a designed smaller A/C clutch, which tends to slip more. The Harrison compressors are actually among the best.
