transporting engine
i bought a used 350 i gotta pickup tonight and i was wondering whta the best way to transport one in the back oof a pickup would be. I have heard of using an old tire to set it on but im not exactly sure if that works and how to set it on. Does anybody have any simple designs of lil wooden stands to set it on?

Do the old tire trick, just set the oil pan down onto the tire. Then take a couple of ratchet or motorcycle straps to the front of the heads and tie them off to the side of the truck bed so it doesn't fall over. Load the engine back by the tailgate so that also acts like a stop.

I just picked up two 350's yesterday and used a trailer. I didn't have two old tires handy, so I used two of the factory valve covers off the engines to set the front of the oil pans on then used a racheting type strap to wrap around the two engines to keep them from falling over. Drove 60 miles this way and it worked out ok. Just couldn't drive like I was running moon shine.
I also used a card board slip sheet and this helped keep the mess down, and the valve cover in place under the front of the motor because it will sink down into the card board with the weight of the engine.

I use old tires with used engines, just put the sump part in the center and take it slow, no straps are needed as long as its a 15+ tire. If it's a new engine I use wood engine crates or the plastic one I kept from a global crate engine, best $100 I ever spent, well for transporting engines anyway.
