stuck on hot start cure tech article.

i'm sorry for posting this twice. I just hoped I'd get a better response here.

hey folks I just spent a few hours troubleshooting this hot start cure and am stumped. the acc and battery cable are on one terminal (top) and the bottom is attached to the starter. The left (they are not marked r or s, so i cant tell) terminal has a purple wire (ignition?) and the right has no terminal (weird).

i bought extra 4' battery cable and a wells solenoid that costs me $19.00 not 4.99 like claimed.
On the solenoid the S and R are defined clearly but the Battery terminal isnt. Theres a long terminal and then theres a short terminal. So I am unsure of the battery terminal.
On the old solenoid, i jumped the terminal with that previously had the purple wire (ignition?) to the battery terminal.
I hooked up the new battery cable on the orig solenoid terminal to the new solenoid's short terminal.
I then hooked up the original battery cable to the long terminal on the new solenoid and battery.
The acc were connected to the long terminal on the new solenoid (one that goes to battery). I tried hooking up the purple wire to the R and then S terminals on the new solenoid.
the solenoid was grounded.

When i turn my key all the way almost to start, I hear the fuel filter priming so i know there is current. then i turn the key and nothing. nothing at all. But the new solenoid did get hot. is that normal? So my starter wont even click. Can someone please tell me where i went wrong? please help this heats taking its toll
