Oil Leak on Filter?

Okay, I have a small oil leak in my car and was wondering if anyone has any ideas on what it might be. I changed my oil and after getting all the oil in and everything sealed up I took the car for a short drive. When I got back I notice new oil coming down the inner side of the filter, the part closets to the tranny. I know there wasn't any gasket left on where the filter goes. There isn't a lot coming out. Don't think there is even enough to drip onto the ground, It just gets on the filter. Does anyone have any ideas as to what might be leaking and showing up in this location. It doesn't seem to be a major problem it is just anoying and I dont want it to get any worse. Any help from anyone is appreciated. Thanks

Here are a few pics I just took so you can see what the filter looks like.

I am wondering if one of these hoses is leaking? Maybe the one on the left side.

Like I said it isn't bad enough for it to be dripping just bad enough to annoy me with having a leak. Any suggestions would help. All I did was slide my digital camera under the car and took the pics. I wont be able to get under the car until next weekend when I take the car back to my parents house to look at it.

Not sure where the leak would be coming from, but it isn't from one of those hoses. The oil cooler hoses circulate antifreeze through an adapter on the filter housing, not oil through the radiator. Maybe the seal between the cooler adapter and the engine is leaking?

NOOOOO ITS A FRAM!!

there is a possibility you got a defective gasket. the cooler adapter to the engine part leaking sounds very possible to me. try taking a closer look.

Yeah, I know it is a fram but I had a different one on last time and it did the same thing. Nothing to bad just anoying. I will look closer at it next weekend. As for the cooler, how do I take it off to replace the gasket to see if that is the problem. Thanks for your help guys and I might get a K&N filter to put on the car but not sure yet.

If I decide to just put on a new oil cooler will it come with the gaskets as well? I figured if I am taking this part off to replace the gasket, I might as well just replace the entire thing if it isn't too expensive.

Chances are it's the gasket between the oil cooler adapter and the block, P/N 14087586. It's a pretty common problem, not that difficult to change.

Do I get the gasket at a dealership or can I get it at any auto parts store?

Dealer would probably be best.

Coukd also be the oil pressure sender right above those 2 hoses going into the block, or a valve cover leak in that corner.

I am not 100% sure but I think my sender is on the other side of the filter. It seems to be leaking on the part that points to the center of the car and the sender is on the oposite side. I have also checked the valve covers and there is no leak there. I hope to get the new gasket this week and get it changed this weekend. I will let everyone know what I find out after I replace it.

Seen somthin on your oil filter

Maybe Im seeing things but looking at your pic's of the oil filter and the two hose's I think I was seeing something wet looking more to the left upper side of the filter and at the filter base it looked green in color like dried up antifreeze.

Yeah, I see what you are looking at. I am not sure if it was the flash or what but I don't think it is antifreeze on that side. To me it looks more like new oil since I just changed my oil. I wont really know until I am able to get it up on ramps and get under it. I am hoping it is nothing serious.

It is funny that I have noticed that when I go to work and get off work I can look under it and see a spot about the size of a quarter right under the filter. But when I take it home and let it sit all night long and look at it in the morning, there is nothing on the ground. A little wierd to me.

i'd change those hoses while i was at it if i were you. i'm with ricktaylor on this one. things look a little rusty around there. maybe some one knows what inside diameter they are and you could pick up a foot to have on hand.
